The file you generate from the sitemaps puts the date of “last modification” so that the crawlers can know when it was modified.
This doesn’t work (or has stopped working) and the website only has 5 very simple pages.
I don’t know if it uses a cron or similar internally but it is not updated at the moment.
I just updated the HOME PAGE and in the sitemaps it says Last Mod.: 2022-05-19 09:53 +00:00

    WordPress version: 5.9.3
    Yoast SEO version: 18.9
    Theme: BeTheme v.26.3.2.2.1

Tested also with theme: Twenty Twenty-Two v1.1

    Hello Digital & SEO,

Thanks for reaching out regarding the lastmodifiedtime in your sitemap. You mentioned that the lastmodifiedtime is not updated for the homepage. Does this apply to other pages on the site? If you go to WordPress > Settings > General, can you confirm the timezone and formats are set as expected?

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi,
The problem is not that the date is incorrectly configured in the settings.

The problem is that even if you update the HOME PAGE (it really happens with any page), the modification date in the sitemaps does not change.

    Thanks

    Hi @digitalandseo

When checking your homepage and viewing the page source, we do see that the data related to the last modified date seems to reflect with what is showing in the page sitemap as well:

    <meta property="article:modified_time" content="2022-05-19T09:53:38+00:00" />

    dateModified":"2022-05-19T09:53:38+00:00”

If you were to go to your pages overview section, could you check what date appears in the last modified date column for your homepage?

    Hi,

Natively, as far as I know, from the page listing I can’t see the page modification date. or yes?

I had to install a plugin and that leads me to confusion, because you asked me for the modification date as if it were something that the WP incorporates.

I would appreciate if it can be done, tell me how without having to have a plugin.

On the other hand, yes, this date that you tell me appears in the WP PAGE LIST

    Thanks.

I think I have found the problem.
I have been able to verify that the theme I use (BeTheme) does not update the modification date, but if I do it from the WP editor itself, it works perfectly.
So I understand that it is not your fault.
I have reported the problem to the theme but they are not paying much attention to me (the theme is dipo divi, Elementor, etc…).
I don’t know if you have contact with them internally so that they can pay more attention, because all the clients that use that theme with your Yoast SEO plugin, the sitemaps “are useless” if they don’t update the date.
    Thank you.

    Hi @digitalandseo

The ‘date’ field should be a native WordPress field and should show either the ‘published date’ or the ‘last modified date’ in the columns in the overview section of the pages. We understand that this might be an issue with your chosen theme, so we suggest reaching out to them for support as well, as the Yoast SEO plugin should use the WordPress fields that it is parsing.
