I write 1 star review for a plugin and my review was deleted two time and now, i give up.

How is it possible that a review that respects the rules of good conduct of wordpress.org is deleted by the moderators according to their will or because they are “friends” of the plugins author.

Please do an internal investigation because I do not think this problem affects all good moderators here.

I can assure you, we don’t wholesale remove 1-star reviews. Goodness knows I’d like to 😉 https://profiles.wordpress.org/macmanx/#content-plugins but we don’t, because that would be wrong.

Looking back, your reviews were removed for a variety of guideline violations: https://wordpress.org/support/guidelines/

In particular, you have a history of using reviews for support. These plugins all have their own support forums, which should be used for support, rather than using a review for support (which can be seen as a form of extortion). If you need help with a plugin, ask for help first, then leave a review of your overall experience once that’s done.

Other reviews removed for your account include duplicate reviews and name calling, neither of which are allowed for obvious reasons.

Hello James, i always respect guidelines I always read it carefully. This is a joke? My review was deleted without motivation.

I have a history of using reviews for support? it’s the first time I hear this nonsense.

I’m not the first to notice this strange behavior of moderators. Time ago some moderators have started to delete negative reviews from the Gutenberg plugin, any many people complain about this in many other forums.

Moderate as you think is right, but it becomes useless if the person can no longer express his experience honestly.

It’s my last post on this topic. A truly negative experience.

This will be long and as I’m on the first cup of coffee I’ll re-read it a few times. I will also edit it later when I find the silly grammar mistake that always happens to my first post of the day.

Reviews, topics and comments are always archived for cause. They’re not deleted and the only thing that goes into the trash bin is actual spam. Why archive that? Your review and a comment or two where archived.

I’ll address the two reasons that you came across.

I write 1 star review for a plugin and my review was deleted two time and now, i give up.

Reviews get archived when they are not reviews. A review is feedback for how a plugin or theme and the user’s experience.

I have a history of using reviews for support? it’s the first time I hear this nonsense.

This is the email you received for your 1 last star review. The mail always goes out and uses the same mail system as forum password resets, notifications, etc.

@marius84 I have removed your review and flagged your account temporarily. Please do not use the review section for support.

If you need support then please raise a support topic.

    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/seo-breadcrumbs/#new-post

You did not leave a review, you left the beginning of a support topic. It was 5 words and a screen shot to an error.

You see, too often some people (and that is a very small percentage thankfully) use the reviews as a stick to get the support they want. That’s disingenuous and a little bit like extortion. Some are flat out “fix my problem or the review gets it”.

If you wish to leave feedback then please do. Trying to get support or leaving a review with just a screenshot and “It broke when I installed” isn’t feedback. It’s an attempt to get support and use a 1 star review to force that. Don’t do that, that gets archived when found and you get a reply from the moderator. That happened to your last review.

The other reasons why 1 star reviews and comments to those reviews are when the person is either ranting, venting and/or being insulting.

That’s what got your account flagged for moderation. This is not limited to the new editor BTW. Too many people think that abusive reviews with insults is acceptable. It’s not.

These are support forums for the code hosted here. Every post and reply should be about helping the community or looking for help. Reviews fall into the helping the community part and can be very valuable.

Here is an example of a review that gets archived when found.

This feature used to work. Then the author updated to a new version. The author sucks! They’re incompetent and I’ll never use this plugin again! Someone should get fired!

There’s also review with profanity, name calling, threats, etc. but you get my point.

That’s feedback but it sure isn’t helping anyone. And yeah, that’s from an actual review and no, it was not the new editor. That person got a note from the moderator why their review was archived just as you did.

Here’s one that was left the same day. It was not archived.

The author chose to upgrade to a new version of a feature to block spam from API version X to version Y. That’s not working for me and has created a lot of problems. I get more spam and the image included from the service breaks my theme’s formatting.

The new version is not as effective as the old version. I don’t know why the author does not support the old version and the new but I can’t use this plugin and switched to a different one because of that decision.

Do you see the difference between the two?

The first one was a rant and that’s not helping anyone. The second one was feedback and informative. They were both 1 star reviews and the second one was not archived.

There are no customers here and no one is anyone’s punching bag for them to vent that way. Plugin authors, theme authors, support people, WordPress core contributors and all users here are volunteers.

When someone writes “we are your customers, suck it up you HAVE to take our abuse” then they’re making a mistake. That’s just not true no matter how many people incorrectly say that. This is a community site ran by volunteers just like yourself and that attitude when applied here is abusive.

The last reason for why reviews or posts get archived is simple. These forums are not anyone’s blog, they are not anyone’s platform or soap box.

When someone just wants to have a conversation about something they do not like or just well, blog here then that gets removed and/or closed with a reply like this one that I used on the new editor.

Thanks for the review. I’m closing this as it’s moved to “blog post” territory and that’s not appropriate for this support forum.

If you want support for anything WordPress or want to help other people in the community with WordPress, please do so. This whole review section for Gutenberg does have some good feedback, both negative and positive.

But unhappy people are brigading here to use the reviews to vent in the form of a blog post and that’s not appropriate for a support forum.

If you wish to blog please do so. Just not on this site.

And the review was closed to new replies and a couple of 800 word replies were archived.

When someone claims “It’s feedback and I left it in Feedback and Requests” (this week too) then that gets archived and they get a note. There are more appropriate sites for that but not this support site.

If someone is trying to rally their troops with “I think that X is wrong. What do you think? Let’s force them to change it back” then they’re in the wrong place and that’s not for here. There are a lot of blogs out there, there is a very active /r/Wordpress on Reddit, there is one on FB. Those places are very broad in what their users can post but everything here is about support.

Edit: Geez, that was short. 10 seconds later I realized I forgot this reason.

Reviews get archived with a note when someone uses them to link to their site.

Spammers do that all the time. That gets found and archived with a note to the user about leaving the review to their words only. That’s not always spam but more often than not it’s just to get a link and that’s not for here either.

*Drinks coffee, re-reads a couple of times.*

I am sure there’s more than a few gruesome grammar mistakes but here goes my reply.

This plugin simply don’t have proper uninstall system. Error message will appear every-time you try to uninstall it in a virgin wordpress installation. So, i have the right to give it 1 star because author don’t answer on my email and also incredibly my support message disappeared from support forum and i’m not be able to see it in my own “topic started”. No fault on my side I have give 1 start after my support forum was deleted from the system.

Please look at my review about https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-is-not-free-2/?view=all

Was deleted first time and I have to write it again but never registered as 1 star.

Then why didn’t you post a support topic? I assure you that the author believes that the plugin can be uninstalled without issues. Your review was archived for the reason I stated.

Please do not use the reviews that way. That’s not what they are for. Reviews are not a carrot or stick.

Please look at my review about

That was archived too just now. The reason that one was archived is that you have a question about that plugin. There’s a place to ask but it’s not the review section.

Someone manually reviews all reviews but many reviews get missed and that one was one. It’s a resource problem.

Reviews that get archived for cause are never about the number of stars, it’s about the content. Many 5 star reviews have been archived too with a note for the same reason.

I don’t know if you have read my post @jdembowski

That post would be a inaccurate understanding of serviceware.

    https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-org/detailed-plugin-guidelines/#6-software-as-a-service-is-permitted

tl;dr? It’s okay to charge for a service. I would have removed that review as well, since it’s a false claim.
