    Hi Chad,

Is there by any chance an issue with the moderation e-mails in the last update 3.0.5.1?
I noticed that my settings where gone after the update form 3.0.4 to 3.0.5. I redid the settings.

I have moderation for registration activated. Normally an e-mail should send out to new users saying their registration is awaiting approval. However, this e-mail isn’t sending anymore. The activation e-mail though, with username and password is sent correctly when a user is activated.

    Thanks for the help!

    regards,
    Silvia

Not until now. Not to be snarky, but you only asked this question a day ago. If you need immediate support, sign up for support at rocketgeek.com. Servicing support subscribers takes priority over questions here in the forum.

I’m not sure why your settings would be gone updating from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 and/or 3.0.5.1. Unless you are updating from pre-3.x, there are no changes to settings in any of the 3.x updates. The changes from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 are pretty minor and have nothing to do with email.

The plugin uses the wp_mail() function to send email. wp_mail() is a pretty robust function so any problems with emails going out (or not being received) is generally after the point of the mail being handed off from wp_mail.

Also, just because some emails are being received but not others does not in and of itself indicate that the problem is not after the email leaves the wp_mail function. Your host or the receiving mail server could flag any message as spam and kill it just because it looks like spam to their algorithm.

Your best bet is to send email through an authenticated SMTP server. There are plenty of plugins available to do this. Also, it’s a good idea to check with your host to make sure you know what their requirements are and that the emails that are going out from you fit those requirements.

I suspect this second suggestion may not be the problem since you have some emails going out and not others. This would lead me to believe that the issue is on the receiving end (keep in mind that just because an email is sent does not mean it will be delivered and received).

I have a post here with some more detail on this and also some suggestions for troubleshooting and making your email process more robust.

One thing that is not covered specifically in that post though that is something you may want to do for the plugin’s emails is to set a “from” address in the header, which you can do with the wpmem_email_headers filter hook.

    Hi Chad,

Sorry, didn’t mean to be rude. And yes I understand of course that premium support users get priority. I will keep that in mind for the future.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. After a lot of testing, I found that there was a conflict between which plugin should send the moderation e-mail (Gravity Forms vs WP-members). So now I have gravity forms sending out hte moderation e-mail and WP-members the activation e-mail when a user has been activated by the admin.

Thanks again! You have a great plugin and great support.

    Kind regards,
    Silvia
