I’m trying to build a notifications system of sorts that relies on using a modal pop up or slide in to alert people when things occur, like a new blog post published etc. It sounds like your plugin would be useful for that so it would be cool if there was some sort of out of the box modal support. I know you primarily focus on email but adding this where it could automatically create one time or persistent (until closed) pop ups/slide ins based on events would be useful.

    Thanks!

    Hey!

Modals, in general, are bad UX so I don’t recommend using them for such communications. If you are interested in frontend notifications, the best we can offer is integration with BuddyPress notification system: https://buddypress.org/about/notifications/

    Here’s our free extension: https://wordpress.org/plugins/notification-buddypress/

You think modals are bad UX? Considering that nearly every modern communications app, from Helpscout to Provesource, Intercom etc use them. I’m not talking about a pop up that greys the background and stops someone in their tracks. I was referring to a slide in modal.

That depends on what do you mean by “modal”. It’s you mean the toast messages then it’s fine. Take a look at BuddyPress, although I’m not sure they offer live notifications
