• Hello everyone. This is my first post to the forums, so please be gentle 🙂
Now, regarding the topic: I know that I can create mod_rewrite rules such that I get permanent URIs for my archives/posts, and that is great, but is there a way to create mod_rewrite rules such that the whole site gets permanent URIs?
    Has anyone tried this yet?
By the way, great community we have here, keep up the good work, everyone :)!

  • whole site as in?
not everyone has a similar website…
this is a site specific operation.
people do create rulez specific for their own site…

What I meant was, would WordPress (the software) mind if I mod_rewrite the whole site (not limited to permalinks)?

Answer: No, WP would not mind.
Reason (short answer): Because mod_rewrite is used by WP, not developed by.

Not at all. mod_rewrite is an Apache webserver module, and you can use it for other rewrites/redirects etc that are not related to wordpress. Just take care that there is no conflict between the wordpress generated rules and the otehr rules that you put in.

I find nothing cryptic or ironic in that.

Count yourself lucky he didn’t start quoting Latin at you 😉

Beel, are you going to do the latin translation of WordPress? 🙂

    That’d be way cool!

Beel – since you seem to know Latin well, at least better than me, could you tell me if I’ve gotten this right:
    vivo, percepi, scriptum
    “Live, Learn, Write
I’m using it as the tag line on my site but still have no idea if it’s right or not.

Beel – thanks a bunch. I’m glad to find out that I almost had it, and I’ve updated it accordingly.
    Thanks!

Just a note, percipio is more than just learn – it is to seize with one’s senses – hence the English word “perceive.” Nice motto. And so that there is some connection here with WP, maybe its motto could be “Purgamentum init, exit purgamentum” (Garbage in, garbage out)
