On an android device, if I click the menu icon to open up the menu it eventually causes a page refresh and the menu then disappears.

Yes, same problem here.
I replaced the mobile menu with the WPR plugin (WordPress Responsive Menu). Always works like a charm.

Hi, this is the site with Catch Responsive theme and WordPress Responsive Menu: http://www.emdr-psychotherapie.nl/
But I found out later that Responsive Menu (http://responsive.menu/) works even better.
