Hi there, we really love your mobile contact bar Plugin. We use it on pretty much every site we develop. There is just one issue. Since the new GDPR applies, we can’t really use font awesome anymore. It would be truly awesome if there was an option to disable font awesome and another one to upload our own icons to be used in the contact bar. Were you planing something like this by any chance?

    Thanks for your answer
    regards
    S.

    Hi @dallavelle,

I am happy that you like the plugin, and thank you for letting me know about the GDPR issue with FA.

Yes, I was thinking about this feature too. Before I start working on that I need more information about how you would like to use it. I have some ideas too:

    1. There will be a new action button for each contact item. By clicking on them you can upload a single image attached to that particular item. The image will be stored as a regular image in the uploads directory.
    2. There will be a setting for importing icon sets. The WP SVG Icons does something similar using IcoMoon. Each items’ Icon Picker will be extended with an icon set selector like this jQuery plugin has.

I am not happy with the first solution becuase it is brute force, however it might be easy to use.

I like the second solution much better, it is clean, although it needs you to know how to generate icon sets with IcoMoon.

    What do you think?

Hi, props for the awesome response time 🙂 I am glad to know you were already thinking to implement it. I think the first way you described is the most user friendly one since we could also just upload an svg image instead of needing a whole icon set for just a couple of icons. On the other hand, being able to select icons from the WP dashicons or other iconsets that come with some themes, would also be a very neat feature to have. At the end of the day, both ways work fine so whatever u feel is easier to work on and maintain, that’s the way you should go 😉 Do you have by any chance an ETA for this feature?

Can you please give me a list of the GDPR compliant iconsets you know about (besides WP Dashicons)? It would be very helpful for me.

The second way with predefined iconsets can be done in the next release (within a couple of weeks from now).

I have a fresh new GitHub repository, so you can follow the development here: https://github.com/annaghi/mobile-contact-bar/projects

The icons themselves aren’t the issue. The issue is with making calls to external servers (Font Awesome, Google Fonts, etc..) So whatever is being used, it basically must be served locally instead of using a cdn or similar.

    Aha, I see.

The plugin does not call external servers, all the needed files are stored in the assets/ directory. That is why my plugin is so big.

    Take a look here:
    https://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/mobile-contact-bar/trunk/assets/

The webfonts/ directory contains the font formats provided by FA 5.x, the same as fonts/ for FA 4.x. The css/ directory contains a public.min.css which is the FA CSS file. And that is it, no other files are needed for FA on the front-end. Similarly on admin side.

Is that OK with GDPR? (Sorry not knowing the details about it.)
