• Hi,

I am uploading an XML file via import tool and it is showing an error
“This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”

    What is the possible reason?
I am using “Microsoft IIS Server”, WordPress 4.3.1 and theme “Real Places theme” basically I was uploading property listing.

Can anyone guide me, I will really appreciate

    Thank you,

    1. Where did you get the export file from?

    2. Are you uploading a file ending in .xml or .zip? If it’s .zip, expand the .zip archive and you’ll find the .xml file(s) inside.

    Hi James,

James I got the file from CRM and the file is in (.xml) format.
propspace is the crm website which I’m using.

What is the file intended to include? Did Propspace say it would be a WordPress export file?

To be clear, .xml is just a markup language, it doesn’t denote the format of the file.

As of 2009, hundreds of document formats using XML syntax have been developed, including RSS, Atom, SOAP, and XHTML. XML-based formats have become the default for many office-productivity tools, including Microsoft Office (Office Open XML), OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice (OpenDocument), and Apple’s iWork. XML has also been employed as the base language for communication protocols, such as XMPP. Applications for the Microsoft .NET Framework use XML files for configuration. Apple has an implementation of a registry based on XML.

In short, just because you have a file ending in .xml does not mean that it’s in WordPress’s WXR format intended to be used for a WordPress import.
