I am so incredibly frustrated. I created a beautiful website using Pagelines–then, with no warning–all the style sheets disappeared one day. I can’t update it because it is “already updated.” I can’t reinstall because it is “already installed.” I can’t see it to fix it, even if I knew how.

So, I took a deep breath and tried redoing my site with Bizway. Again, I created a beautiful site then–without warning–all the style sheets disappeared one day. I can’t update it because it is “already updated.” I can’t reinstall because it is “already installed.” I can’t see it to fix it, even if I knew how.

Both sites were working fine for over a week. Then they just disappeared without warning.

I had to install an ugly-betty site in their place so my website wouldn’t go down.

I am completely perplexed. How do I get my beautiful websites back???

OK what do you mean your stylesheets disappeared? Have you been editing the themes css files?
Things do not delete without warning overnight.
You cant install a theme if the the theme is already installed, WordPress will not allow you to, you need to rename the theme folder if you want to do that.
Also if you want to force it to re-install/upgrade, just edit the main style.css and change the version so it is lower than the released version.

I have never touched a css in my life. I wouldn’t know what to do with one. I’m telling you they just disappeared. I called Godaddy, where my websites are hosted, when it happened the first time, and they told me the style sheets were missing. I’m thinking it is a bug with the newest WordPress update? I don’t know.

And, this didn’t just happen once–it happened twice! But ONLY with the HTML5-based sites.

Well can you show us a site where the css has ‘disappeared’ on you?

    michellekassorla

    (@michellekassorla)

I don’t know how to do that. I have replaced the theme with a plain WordPress theme to keep the site up. I volunteer for a non-profit, and I couldn’t just let the site disappear.

Well, there isnt much we can do then, without a url to see im afraid.
But I cant believe css files would just vaporize into thin air, even if godaddy says they did 😉

Here’s what I see at the bottom of my Theme Management page:

    Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
    bizway Stylesheet is missing.
    pagelines Stylesheet is missing.

Have you renamed any theme folders?

    michellekassorla

    (@michellekassorla)

I can give you my URL, no problem: http://www.2themax.org

However, I have replaced my beautiful website with the plain-jane because the HTML5 sites won’t work.

    michellekassorla

    (@michellekassorla)

I wouldn’t know how to rename a folder, or even where I would go to do it.

    michellekassorla

    (@michellekassorla)

I’m really pathetic, as far as HTML/CSS goes. I’ve tried to do codeacademy, but I haven’t had the time to learn much yet!

OK this folder does not exists:
    http://2themax.org/wp-content/themes/pagelines/
    and http://2themax.org/wp-content/themes/pagelines/style.css is a 404

So either you, or somebody has deleted the folder, or renamed it.

    michellekassorla

    (@michellekassorla)

I wouldn’t know how to do either of those, and no one has access to my site but me and the president of the organization–who is barely able to run MS Word.

Then you need to ask your host where the files went.

As I said, they just disappeared. Do you think we were hacked? And, if we were hacked, then why didn’t they touch our much more controversial blog at http://www.tothemaximusblog.org? Is there a way that people can get to the HTML5 but not the plain-jane themes?
