Hi, wonder if you can help with this please?

Today I noticed Comments functionality is missing from some (not all) of my posts.

I’ve made sure Comments are enabled and active. I’ve also de-activated all plugins to check for conflicts. There’s no change; Comments box still doesn’t appear for some posts.

At spikeblogs.com the top two posts show “0 Comments” and have the comment box correctly at the foot of each page. The bottom post on the homepage doesn’t show any “No. of Comments” text and the Comments box isn’t shown at the foot of the post, despite being enabled & active.

I’ve checked with my theme developer and they have previously installed Twenty Seventeen for another user experiencing a similar issue. That didn’t resolve the problem and they still, as far as I’m aware, have the same problem too.

Any help, advice or pointers would be sincerely appreciated… have exhausted all my options now.

Sincere thank you for your time.

    Regards,

    S

When you say enabled and active, what are you referring to?

This is the main Settings page where you enable comments on New articles. Any change of this setting will not affect existing articles. Also, note the italics that say each article can override this setting.

So it is likely that the comments on that article got turned off, OR all comments were turned off when it was written and the global setting turned on afterwards.

Still, it is up to the theme to output what is there, correctly.

    Thank you for the reply.

I fully understand the Settings > Discussion option and also the Screen Options tab within each post (and the switch at the foot of the post to enable/disable Comments per post).

I believed my site had always had comments enabled and as the only author I don’t recall ever making changes to Comments settings myself. I wonder if a plugin may have had an affect along the way somehow?

I’ve spoken to my theme authors and they are not aware of any theme issues either.

I’ll add more content and pay close attention to the settings before posting and see if it confirms things.

    Kind regards,
