Support » Themes and Templates » Missing sidebar after refreshing Twenty Eleven Theme

  • Resolved jaydokie

    I had a problem where I eventually was advised to re-upload the Twenty Eleven theme due to corrupting the CSS file. It worked but I am missing my sidebar. On my homepage at, my sidebar is missing and when I pulled up another page (Editorials) it also started missing the sidebar. In my Theme Options it showed the layout as having a right sidebar, so I switched it to the left sidebar. The left sidebar does work but the content extends over onto the content body. When I switch back to the right sidebar, nothing shows up. Does anyone know what I should do? If it includes changing or adding a script, please be specific what code file and where within the css I need to place something.

    I am missing my sidebar.

    Actually, you’re not. The default single page view in the Twenty Eleven theme does not include sidebars. What were you using to show sidebars in single pages previously?

    When you select the page (homepage or what is static linked for my homepage being “News in Indian Country” ) from Pages in the Dashboard, on the right side of the edit page under the Template, you can select Sidebar Template from the dropdown menu. And like I said, if I select left sidebar in the Theme Options screen, I can get a left sidebar with my page but it over extends onto my body content of the page. I will change it to the left sidebar now so you can see it does work for the left but now not for the right.

    do not edit Twenty Eleven directly, but create a child theme first;

    to get a sidebar showing properly in a page template, you need to manipulate the ‘body_class()’ output;

    in a child theme of Twenty Eleven, this is done this way:

    you can select Sidebar Template from the dropdown menu

    That selection does not affect single Pages or Posts. Only post listing pages. Perhaps you need to install

    I actually wouldn’t mind the left sidebar if I could move over the body margin so there is no overlap. It doesn’t look bad with the left sidebar if so.

    Hey, I just tried to click on the left sidebar links and nothing happens. But in the links selection, the URL are correct, but nothing happens on the homepage.

    That worked. It’s back to normal. Thank you very much.
