# Missing RSS Feeds

 * I have a number of different categories, with posts in each of them, on a site
   I’m looking at.
 * For some reason, the RSS feeds to not seem to exist. For example, [here’s a sample category](http://www.emazzanti.net/category/announcements/),
   and [here’s where I would think the RSS feed resides](http://www.emazzanti.net/category/announcements/feed/)…
   but it doesnt.
 * Why is it missing? Please advise. Thanks in advance!

 * i was under the impression that RSS is automatically enabled. How and where would
   it be turned On or Off?

 * I have a little more info that may help. When I go to the [feed location](http://www.emazzanti.net/feed/)
   in IE, I just get an error message saying “Feed Code Error – Internet Explorer
   cannot display this feed”.
 * But in Firefox I get a more descriptive error:
 *     ```
       XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity
       Location: http://www.emazzanti.net/feed/
       Line Number 5, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><rss version="2.0"
       ^
       ```

 * You have a bunch of whitespace before your feed
 * Try deactivating all plugins temporarily, and testing your feed
 * If that doesn’t work, also switch to 2011 temporarily and test
 * Gotta track down where that whitespace is coming form

 * FYI, I picked up this project (a highly customoized wordpress site) where the
   last person left off so I don’t know the rational behind why certain plugins 
   are in place but…
 * The plugin that’s installed and running is called [RSS Pages For WordPress](http://programming.has.no.com/2008/05/14/wordpress-rss-pages-plugin/).
   I de-activated it and that did not resolve the issue.
 * I then tried activating a plugin called [Fix RSS Feed](http://www.gofunnow.com/wordpress/plugins/fix-rss-feed-error-wordpress-plugins.htm).
   But that did not work. There’s a weird message on the plugins screen (where normally
   a brief description of the plugin would be) that says: “fix wordpress rss feed
   error “Error on line 2: The processing instruction target matching “[xX][mM][
   lL]” is not allowed.” while you burn wordpress rss feed from [http://www.feedburner.com](http://www.feedburner.com),
   also fix error “XML or text declaration not at start of entity” in firefox, and
   fix error “XML declaration not at beginning of document” in opera.” **Is that
   description or error message???**
 * Anyway, **does this provides any insite into the direction to go in next?** I’m
   hesitant to start disabling all the plugins and switching themes because this
   is a live site and we don’t yet have a development site up and running yet (that’s
   in the works).
 * Additonally, someone asked about “did you turn on RSS?” I thought RSS was auto
   enabled. **I can’t find any RSS on/off switch. Am I missing something?**

 * Yup, that’s the error I was pointing to in my above post. Did you deactivate 
   ALL plugins and test?
 * Something is introducing white space into your code
 * could be a plugin, could be your theme.
 * So, common troubleshooting is to deactivate ALL plugins, and test your feed
 * if that doesn’t work, switch to 2011 theme and test your feed.
 * pinpoint where the space is coming from
