I’ve just done my first install of a multisite via CPanel in BlueHost
Adding additional sites to the network via subdomains, when I try and add new I get an error of: Missing or invalid site address.

    So primary site is: escape2languedoc.com
    Sub domain is herault.escape2languedoc.com

I’ve tried setting up the new site as both herault.escape2languedoc.com and heraultescape2languedoc.com and receive the same error message on both.

I have set up a wildcard subdomain before setting up the other subdomains as recommended on other forum posts. I’ve added the additional code to my wp-config.php file and changed the code on the htaccess file.

    Subdomain is pointing to: /public_html/herault

    Any suggestions?

  • You need to edit the subdomain so that it points to public_html instead of public_html/herault

I’m currently running a single installation WordPress and I want to provide multilingual options for my site’s users. I’ve looked through a few forums and tried various plugins and it seems that the most flexible way is to create a multisite to set each sub-site’s language.

I would prefer network-wide database sharing ie. Users, posts, page should be same/similar across sites. I found some plugins that could achieve this such as Multisite User Management, Multilingual Press.

I would to know whether this would a valid reason to go for a multisite WordPress or is it better to stay with single installation instead? Is there a better way to create a multilingual site?

Thanks for that, I assume my wildcard subdomain must also point to the same place?

Yes, your wildcard subdomain should point to public_html (assuming that’s where you have WordPress installed). All subdomains using your multisite setup need to point to that root location; WordPress will handle what to do with them from there.
