 * I have found in 3.4.2 since upgrade thumbnails are not show in media and accont
   be inserted in posts.
If you click on ‘Edit Media’ it replies “Image data does
not exist. Please re-upload the image.” Images in 5 sizes have been uploaded
and can be found in the uploads folder in either the year/month location or if
Settings/Media ‘Organize my’ tick box is unticked in the uploads folder. File
permissions on all folders and files are all OK. Using a browser and the url
shows the image with no problems Problems exists on any theme with all plugins
removed. Contents of wp-admin & wp-content replaced with new files as suggested
   elsewhere.
 * does anyone have any other ideas on how to fix this??

 * Check your uploads path in Settings->Media. It should be blank in most installs.

 * As posted – I was set to blank and I have overridden it as well.
    No change.

 * Have you tried:
 * – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.

 * Resetting the plugins folder as in post reply via PhpMyAdmin did not work.

 * You specifically need to try it using the Twenty Eleven theme. Nothing in your
post thus far suggests that you have done this.

 * Specifically I have tried the Twenty Eleven theme with plugins disabled and upload
   problem exists.
Clearly the use of ‘any theme’ was confusing. Uploading was
working with desired theme until upgrade then uploading problems started. Go
Figure. Clearly not the only one with this problem. Perhaps someone, forum or
WordPress, could investigate or ask more specfic installation questions to try
and reproduce the problem rather than just repeat standard replies which have
not worked for me or others posting same issue.

 * Welcome to WordPress Troubleshooting 101 – a process of elimination deliberately
designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the
most obvious and common culprits. The suggestions I posted above tend to fix
about 75% of site issues – at least in the 4 years that I’ve been helping out
   around here. 🙂
 * The only other cause of your problem that I can think of is that your database
has been damaged at some time – leading to a critical loss of image data. Do
you have any recent(ish) database backup?
 * Oh – and there’s no one at “WordPress” to ask. Theses free, volunteer-staffed
forums are the only support short of hiring someone.

 * Whilst I appreciate volunteer support is what it says, repeating answers given
two years ago for the same question verbatum is repeating standard replies. By
the law of averages if you keep repeating the same answer to a similar question
   you must get some right.
My car does not go, put petrol in it, as a reply will
   work most times!
 * Fault diagnosis in the human body, something about as complex as WordPress it
seems, is done by asking questions about the symtoms then drawing conclusions
and recommending a solution. Not repeating past prescriptions.
 * Given the problem appears to be the link between the media list and the images,
that have sucessfully been uploaded, some guidance on what tables hold what might
shed more light on the issue?
 * Looks like the best bet is to strip it all down and start again.

 * I don’t want to thread-jack here, but I think I’m having the exact same problem:
Media Library lists all the previous files, and allows me to upload new files,
but all the Thumbnails are blank / white.
 * Step 1: View Library. All thumbnails are white. [http://cl.ly/image/1B1q0o45111b](http://cl.ly/image/1B1q0o45111b)
 * Step 2: Click on Image name to enter the Image Editor, then click “Edit Image”
   button. [http://cl.ly/image/1X1i1a340f2N](http://cl.ly/image/1X1i1a340f2N)
 * Step 3: …and “Image Data Does Not Exist. Please re-upload the image” error appears.

 * FTP Permissions on this folder: 755
FTP Permissions on this file: 644
 * I have already attempted to disable all plugins. Didn’t fix it. (Here’s all the
Active and Inactive plugins as well. [http://cl.ly/image/3W2j3e0y0R02](http://cl.ly/image/3W2j3e0y0R02))

I then switched to the Twenty-Eleven Theme. Didn’t fix it.
 * This happened when I upgraded to 3.4.2. I have another WP site running on the
same host, in a near identical setup as the problem site, running 3.4.1. I can
see Thumbnails in that Media Library just fine.
 * I just re-installed 3.4.2 on the problem WP site. Didn’t fix it.
 * If this is a database problem, what do I need to do? Here’s my current tables:

 * I have been uploading images today, when I try to and include them in a post
the images are full size, I get this message “Image data does not exist. Please
re-upload the image.” although the image is there.
 * Can anyone help, I have disabled all plugins yet it still occurs
