missing links from sidebar

i’m sorry but i am very new to this and have severe newb questions. i have spent several hours searching the internet since my problem started and i have nowhere else to turn to.

my problem:
someone else installed my wp and my theme too. everything was fine until:
i decided to add some things and remove other things from the sidebar. i made the blogroll links the person added private. i then added the calender widget to the sidebar. i then added the categories widget to the sidebar. doing this made everything in the sidebar disappear for quite some time. after giving up and then checking the site much later, some of the widgets i had added showed up in the sidebar. that’s good, however, i cannot get my ABOUT link to show up. i put the pages widget and also the links widget in the sidebar but my ‘about’ link does not show, when it did before.

i have the feeling this is something very simple to fix but after hours and hours of searching, i don’t know how to do it. please help.
