• I recently started getting a ton of spam. I checked and found all my plug-ins were missing. I called 1and1.com, my web hosting service, and they said the WP plugins directory had gotten deleted. (Wasn’t me; I was on vacation when it happened.)

They restored the directory, but a lot of my images are no longer connected to their posts, pages, or widgets. About half are still working fine. When I go to the Media | Library, I see entries for all the images–names, sizes, locations, etc.–but a bunch of image thumbnails aren’t showing up and I get a 404 error if I go to their permalinks.

However, 1and1 says the images are all on their server, so maybe some links between WordPress and the files got broken somehow? Or if the images are gone, how can I recover them? Does WP keep all images in one or more specific directories?

You can see the problem at terryburlison.com/software: no slideshow in the left sidebar, no thumbnails or embedded images in the right pane.

    Any help?
