# Missing .htaccess file

 * Hey Guys,
 * After hours of looking over the web / this site i’m unclear what to do.
    I’m 
   missing my .htaccess file in my subfolder.
 * Let me explain…
 * I’d try to redirect wordpress to a subfolder in which I installed wordpress.
   
   Following this guide; [Giving wordpress it’s own directory](http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory#Using_a_pre-existing_subdirectory_install)
   I thought everything was going to be alright. Followed all the steps, but i couldn’t
   find a .htaccess file in my subfolder (/webdev in my case).
 * I enabled hidden files in my FTP program but still nothing did show up. I tried
   uploading an empty .htaccess file, but no code would be added. (remained empty)
 * The .htaccess file on the root of the website does have code in it.
 * When continuing with the rest of the steps, changing the link in the Index.php
   file and re-saving the permalinks (they are on the standard settings) the site
   was completely blank, nothing was showing up.
 * Hopefully you guys can help me out, as I would like to have this site online 
   asap… 🙂
 * So to summarise it, i can’t find my ‘hidden’ .htaccess file in my subfolder to
   re-direct the webpage from the root to my subfolder.

 * Originally you would find your .htaccess file in the root of the WordPress install(
   along with wp-content, wp-includes, etc)…
 * When you move WordPress to it’s own directory, you need to copy this .htaccess
   to the root directory of your site (probably www or public_html).

 * But that was my problem. There was a .htaccess file on the root of the site, 
   but not on the subfolder were I installed wordpress in my case the /webdev folder.

 * Thanks guys for the support. I initially thought wordpress had to remain in the
   same directory, but since i moved it. It appeared to be fine.
