missing folder

I have had a bit of a problem getting everything to work after the install but now nearly everything seems to work after reloading everything again after the install. The only remaining thing is that I am unable to load images.

I get the missing temporary folder message.

I tried the solution I found at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/314805?replies=11
by inserting the echo getcwd() which shows a suitable path http://www.myhome/wp-admin with sufficient rights 777.

Is it looking for a specific dir name ie tmp etc?
Please help
