Support » Fixing WordPress » missing files

  • Hello All
I’m sure this is just another case of something caused by my inexperience with the interface and that someone will know the answer. When I to to WP control panel, or whatever it is properly called?? under manage>files the dialog tells me the file my-hacks.php does not exist and indeed I can’t find it anywhere on the server. Does anyone know what it is for? and where it is supposed to be?. Not really a problem I think it may be a feature I’m not using! On the same page it states that .htaccess is also missing I have seen this file and it is alive and well. Why does WP>Site Admin>Manage>Files not see it?

  • 1. General rule: don’t use that file manager. It’s useless and can cause more trouble than good.
    2. You don’t need the hack file. It’s a legacy thing from earlier versions.

Good advice in light of the fact it cannot find a file that I know to be on the server and healthy.

    Thanks Again
