Missing Author and Date

I am new to wordpress and I see there are lots of comments on how to remove the date and author from a page but on my Responsive Theme layout it does display the author and date and I would like to have it included and cannot seem to find where and what to do. I have looked into the themes index.php and also in the themes style.css file
Any help would help
