• I want to set up a Site Icon but when I follow the instructions (go to Appearance->Customize and pick the Site Identity tab), there’s no Site Identity tab shown. (There is a Site Logo tab and a few others).

    I’m using the “Attorney” theme, which I don’t think has been updated for a while (and no update is available). Is the Site Identity support dependent on something in the theme? Or to put it another way, do old themes fail to support some newer features?

    I’ve made some changes in the Attorney theme which I don’t want to lose, so I don’t want to switch to another theme unless I know it’s necessary. But I will if I have to…

    Thanks,

  • Could be the Site Logo tab for that specific theme.

    Might want to ask your question here: https://wordpress.org/support/theme/attorney

    Thank you for your quick response.

    I’m new to all this WordPress stuff so I apologize for posting the question in the wrong place…

    I posted my question on the forum for the Attorney theme per your suggestion (thanks), but it is a very obscure forum and gets very little traffic.

    I did look at the Site Logo tab but all that lets me change is the logo at the top of the page.

    What I really want to know is whether the Site Identity stuff depends on theme support. Is it expected behavior that older themes might not show a Site Identity tab?

    If the answer is yes then I need to find another theme. If not, something else is set up wrong.

    Thanks again,

    It is indeed a theme problem; easy to fix though. Just find a theme that has Site Identity (I used twenty-sixteen), choose your Favicon logo, save. Then go back to your original theme and the favicon is preserved.

    @gabla nice solution, thanks
