Minor negative feedback: image preview in wordpress comments takes AGES
-
Howdy!
Not a real rant, more like a simple feedback.
I like very much this feature that appeared recently, when you hover your mouse over a link to an image that is published in a comment, wordpress generates a preview of this image for you.
My negative feedback: it takes eons before generating this image, I have the impression I could get up from my chair, grind coffee grains, boil water, prepare myself a coffee and come back, and maybe the preview generation might have not ended.
… OK, OK. Slight exaggeration. It’s more like having to wait five full actual seconds before the image is loaded 😀
But, still, it’s an oddity, it seems unrelated to the size of the image (typically: imgur links served super fast taking only a fraction of second to be loaded).
My point, essentially: this long loading time makes this feature mostly broken for its intended usage. If you care for an example…
This image, loading after half a second for me when opened in a different browser with an empty cache, takes something like 6 seconds to get a preview from the comments when hovering above its link: http://static.carthrottle.com/workspace/uploads/comments/dayum-54adb4dac0101.jpg(Fair “disclaimer”: I hope I’m not mistaken in viewing this as a wordpress feature. I recently replaced themes and plugins, so maybe it comes from one of these. I think not – I tested on a different wordpress blog – but I cannot tell for 100% sure.)
