# Migration Procedure questions

 * Hey,
 * I’ve 3 1 page sites I’d like to consolidate into 1 installation, but still maintain
   distinct domains for each, preferably with ‘www’. There’s a lot of information
   and I’d like to get some things clear before I start.
 * This is how I plan to do it:
 * 1. Use All-in-One WP Migration to backup sites I want to migrate
 * 2. Activate multisite on the main installation I want to use. I’m thinking of
   folder separation for sites. (or should I use subdomains? Still hazy on pros/
   cons)
 * 3. Create new sites
 * 4. Migrate them make in using the above plugin
 * 5. Use WordPress MU Domain Mapping to map specific domains for the migrated installations
 * Sounds good?
 * Also, the host I’m using, hostgator, doesn’t ‘officially’ support multisite and
   I’m contacting them to find out what that means exactly. Any insight from experienced
   users would be welcomed.

 * I have not used All-in-One WP Migration for multisites. It looks like you would
   need to purchase their multisite extension.
 * I have used BackupBuddy– which is in “beta” for multisite (has been for years,
   probably always will be), but works.
 * In general, your steps sound like what I would do with BUB, except that with 
   BUB, you would not first create the new subsites — just migrating in with the
   backup will create the site.
 * What you will need to ask Hostgator is if they support wildcard subdomains. If
   they don’t, then your domain mapping won’t work.
 * Just FYI, in general, you might expect more issues with multisite (over single
   sites) on cheaper shared hosting. If you can possibly afford it, I would recommend
   stepping up at least one level of quality — even if it’s still shared hosting
   to something like Bluehost or Dreamhost.
