Hi. I’ve read through the https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/migrating/#stuck-preview tips, disabled caching, the plugin and various other things, but the migration preview never moves beyond 184 records.

My first point of confusion is that I only have 185 events total (published, draft), but the preview says “184 events previewed, 15 remaining” … which seems to be more events than exist.

Any other tips to get this to complete?

Fortunately, everything still seems to work ok, despite this not completing.

    Using Version 6.0.3.1

Hi @adevandry @efishinsea, apologies for the delay here, I’m back now.

We just released The Events Calendar 6.0.4. We fixed quite a few errors in this release, and it may have solved this issue as well. Please update and let us know if that fixes the issue here.

To be safe, we’d recommend conducting tests and updates on a Staging Server and keep a working backup of your website.

Also, please clear any caching for both third-party plugins and server-side (if you have any). It would also be good to flush permalinks.

Hi. Thanks, but nothing seems to have changed.

I updated the plugin to v6.0.4, and I re-ran the migration/upgrade and see the same results.

    It always stops here: https://snipboard.io/YuDjeQ.jpg

Also, the counts for the number of events we have vs. the above migration message is still off: https://snipboard.io/fyFEnw.jpg

Again, everything seems to be working ok otherwise.

    Thanks.

Hi @efishinsea, yikes! Sorry to hear about this. I am curious about what’s causing this. Is there any error or server logs you could share? I’d be glad to help you out further. We only have these issues prior to v6.0.1 but not with the latest releases.

Also, could you follow this article here in troubleshooting stuck migration: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/migrating/#migration-stuck

Please let me know how it goes.

    HI.

No errors at all, and everything works fine. The only ‘issue’ is that if I go to settings > upgrade, it shows this incomplete status. I’ve done all the help file suggests so will just keep ignoring this I guess.

Hi @efishinsea, thanks for confirming. By any chance, do you have pending or deleted events? Would be good to try and clear that out and see if that makes a difference. Please keep a working backup of your website before doing so.

Hi @efishinsea, thanks for confirming. Let me reach out to the team what else we can do here, but this is a bit tricky since there are no errors that should pinpoint the issue.

I’d get back to you and please do share with me anything that comes up or any clues on your end.

    Hang in there.

Despite clearing caches and such, restarting the migration begins with “200” events remaining, though we only have 189. The leftovers are likely because there are not actually 200 events, which I’ve confirmed in several ways. So the question is, where is the code getting the 200 number from?

    Hi folks,

Thanks for reporting these issues. We’ve identified a bug where one of our queries is mis-counting events in the database due to weird event data. Essentially, the migration over-counts and then gets stuck trying to migrate events that don’t exist, but have been counted. I believe that’s what’s going on here.

I’m happy to say that we are working on a fix for this issue for our next release. Keep an eye out on your dashboard for the next available update, and we’ll also post again here once that’s available. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

    Best,
    Leah

Thank you for following up with this. I was also seeing more events in the migration that we actually had on the site.

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to reach out and give you an update on this stalled migration issue. We’ve been digging into this and have identified two issues, one that has to do with how our queries count events and one that caused a WordPress database deadlock error.

Today we released new versions of The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro. These versions include a fix for the query issue, and we’re working on the deadlock issue for the next release.

Please update to The Events Calendar 6.0.5 and Events Calendar Pro 6.0.4, and try migration again. I’d also encourage you to review our tips for a smooth migration. If the migration stalls again, it’s likely that your site is also experiencing the deadlock issue. You can confirm by looking for WordPress database error Deadlock found in your site’s debug log.

I’m hoping that this new release allows you to successfully migrate, and please let me know how it goes. I appreciate your patience with us while we work through and solve these complex issues!

    All the best,
    Leah

I confirm that this latest update to Version 6.0.5 fixed the issue and the migration worked without any problems.

    Thanks!
