• I have been developing a WordPress site on a Host Gator Addon Domain (http://gator1571.hostgator.com/~williams/davidanderik.com/). I am at the point that I’d like to go live with it. I have the domain name (DavidAndErik.com) registered with Hover. I have the Hover DNS setup to forward with stealth redirection enabled. It works to some degree, but when you hover over a link, you can see the underlying hostgator.com URL structure and I can’t get to the wp-login page that way. I tried to change the WordPress Address URL and Site Address URLs in the settings, but that really screwed things and kept me from accession the Dashboard. I had to reset those fields directly through MySQL. Is there any documentation on how to make the move from development to production in this sort of environment? I am very new at WordPress administration, but could probably figure it out if there were some sort of high level directions available. Any pointers or suggestions would be much appreciated!! Thanks, Erik

  • Hi Erik,

First of let me see if I understand how things are currently.

You’ve been developing your site on a hostgator account and you now want to move it over to a different server with a different company.

    Is this correct?

If so, visit – http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress, specifically the section with the headline “Moving to a New Server” and follow those instructions.

    Hope this helps,
    Ryan

p.s. I like what you’ve done with the site!! I’ve been looking at playing around with the agentpress theme for a while and just might this weekend!!

    Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the fast response! No, not moving servers … still at Host Gator on an Addon Domain. Just want the URLs to work correctly. I was thinking there might be some sort of global replace function for the Addon Domain references?

Thanks for the feedback!! My original site is on the first version of Agentpress (erikwilliams.com) and this new site is on version 2. Really happy with their product. I am NOT a web devel guy, but I am really pleased with them too!

    Best,
    Erik

    ahh, got it.

If you visit the same page, http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress, but this time go through the “When Your Domain Name or URLs Change” near the top and the sub heading “On Your Existing Server”

    That should do it.

If not try these two tutorials which are supplied at the bottom of the moving wordpress page.
