Support » Plugin: Download Monitor » Migration from 3.3 – confused dot com?

  • Resolved flick

Firstly, thanks very much to Mike Jolley for taking the time to rewrite this excellent plugin. I loved the functionality of 3.3 and am glad to hear its been updated with the latest best practices.

However, I am slightly embarrassed to say that I am confused by the migration process and need some help if possible.

    My situation is as follows:

    1. When viewing via Plugins, the plugin is called WordPress Download Monitor with version no. and the message about the forthcoming release.

    2. When I try to search for the ‘new’ version via Add New, I see ‘Download Monitor’ version no. 1.0.2 with the new blurb. Except I am unable to install it because it is already ‘Installed’.

    3. De-activating the plugin makes no difference to the ‘Installed’ state on Add New.

I understand from the legacy importer docs that I am supposed to de-activate the old and activate the new. So now I am a little lost.

Thanks in advance. I am sure it is something really simple so help would be appreciated.

  • And here is the answer, courtesy of @Li-An:

Save your database – or tables relatives to Download Monitor 3
    Install Download Monitor Legacy Importer
Delete Download Monitor 3 directory in plugins
Install Download Monitor 4 (well, 1.0.0 now)
Go to Tools>Import and choose Download Monitor Legacy Importer

Take a look at your “old” downloads if they still work. If you desactivate Download Monitor Legacy Importer, individal downloads shortcodes all broken now. Too bad.
As downloads are now custom posts, they all changed their ID ! So you have two solutions: manually change each ID for individual downloads or keep Download Monitor Legacy Importer activated. To you to choose.
