• Hi,

I am working on a site redesign as well as switching hosting. I built a new site making the (possibly incorrect) assumption that I would be able to import any plugin data and existing users from the old site at a later date. I am now struggling to move over my Woocommerce and Affiliates data and settings. I’m running into similar confusion about how to transfer over the existing site users without losing passwords. At this point, is it possible to selectively migrate these plugins and their associated settings, extensions, etc..? Or was it necessary to build the new site on top of a copy of the existing framework from the start? I think I may be looking at this in the wrong way (i.e thinking that i’m trying to export a plugin as a unit as opposed to a more substantial transfer of information)…Any guidance, or direction towards appropriate resources would be extremely helpful.

    Thank you,

    Matt

  • You are probably looking to use something like WPAllImport to handle your migration at this point. It does have a paid plugin that works with Woocommerce products and users as well as advanced custom fields.

I probably would have started with a complete backup of the website and installed it on a staging server and then selectively removed any plugins or theme you didn’t want to use. Honestly, any time you use Woocommerce it should be viewed as the opportunity to learn new skills.

Thank you very much for the reply. I figured as much that this far along I would need to enlist the help of a premium migration plugin to move everything nicely.

I will probably take a step back and start from the beginning though so I don’t fall into this trap again. Learning the right way to do it is the name of the game.

    Thanks for the help,

    Matt
