Migrating / Replicating my WordPress Site = Depression
-
Hello all!
I am in the process of moving execlawgroup.com to execlawpractice.com. We’re going to phase out execlawgroup.com in 6 months but want to get the new site ready.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
– Downloaded a copy of execlawgroup.com
– Backed up the database
– Bought new hosting
– Installed the execlawgroup.com files on execlawpractice.com
– Went into MyPHPadmin at elp.com and installed the backeup database.
– Installed Velvet Blues Search and Replace URL changer and changed everything from elg.com to elp.com
– Installed the Search and Replace database script and changed all elg to elp and all execlawgroup.com to execlawpractice.comNOW, you would think everything would be ready to go. However, when I go onto execlawgroup.com/wp-admin, it wants to redirect me to execlawpractice.com/wp-admin. WTF?
That’s the first WTF… Here’s the 2nd WTF: When I make changes to Exec Law Practice with the new logos, it updates the logo on Exec Law Group. WTFFF?!?! We are using YellowJacket theme and I’m not sure if this has anything to do with it. I need to have both of these sites working.
Please help me stop shouting WTF at the top of my lungs.

For future reference, This guide is better to follow when moving a site: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL
In your case, it sounds like some things were missed in the database.
I would suggest going into the database (php myadmin) – you’ll go into options (wp_options) portion and confirm these 2 spots are showing the correct url, step by step instructions are here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL#Changing_the_URL_directly_in_the_database
Thanks for your fast response!
Bryan – I used that guide and did change the siteurl field in the database. Where can I find the home field?
Sincerely, Dominick
It also into the same tabbe wp_options.
You have to search for option_name -> home.
I suppose I’m asking because I don’t have a home field in my wp_options. Could that be the problem? – Dominick
Okay I found it! It was on the 2nd page of option_names… #noob
Thanks for your help so far. Going to see if this does the trick.
Still… When I type in execlawgroup.com it sends me to http://execlawpractice.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fexeclawgroup.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1
Should I just start all over or something? :-[
Delete these two line if you already wrote those.
define('WP_HOME','http://example.com'); define('WP_SITEURL','http://example.com');
More data: when I go into the search and replace database script and convert everything back from execlawpractice.com to execlawgroup.com, I am able to sign into execlawgroup.com/wp-admin again…. Hmmmm…?!
@greyparrots, those are no longer in my wp-config files.
Yes, that will occur. because your old site is alive, and that sends you back to your old site.
But if I change everything in the database, everything should be fine yes? Is there a different way I should be going about this?
Hi,
You just have to change the wp_options table, nothing else, only those two field. It will work.
Alright so I deleted the database on execlawpractice.com. Created a new database with the same name as the one at execlawgroup.com. Then I imported the settings into that new database. I changed the two fields in wp_options but the exact same thing is happening. :-[
Any ideas?
