Support » Localhost Installs » Migrating my website from a local server to a live one

  • I have recently copied and migrated my live website to a local host to make some changes. I am now wanting to re-upload the changes to replace the current live website. To do this must I also replace the current live database on CPanel, with the database I am using on my local server? Or do I only need to replace the wordpress files using a FTP client?

    Appreciate any help!

    Cheers

you need to export your DB from the local site and import to the live one if any of your changes were recorded in the database. If you only changed files, then only files need to be uploaded.

    Hi Steve,

Thank you for the help. I only modified the database to change access from the live site to the local. However I was not sure whether if the database would be further edited when I edited the files.

    Lee,
You say you only edited some files. Like maybe some CSS or a .php file. Probably no changes in the database. But if you installed a new plugin be aware it may have added tables to the database, so you need to migrate both the database and the files back to the live site. What are you using for the migration?

    Hi Maury,

Okay thank you for the advice! Would I just import the new database into the Hosting Cpanel, and delete the old one? Would additional changes have to be made in the Wp-Config file to connect the new database, and is there any other changes i would need to make?

I was going to use FizeZilla for transferring the files.
