Migrate WordPress site from localhost to server

    I’m about to migrate a WordPress site from localhost to server and I’m thinking of this plugin: Duplicator.

    I have created the files thats needs to be imported through:
    http://www.mysite.com/installer.php

    On the server, could this be done “from scratch” in an empty folder?
    Or do I need an existing WordPress intallation that can be done from within the control panel of my hosting?

    No, Duplicator is intended to create the complete WordPress environment for you. As you put it: “from scratch”.

    I’ve used Duplicator and been quite happy with the results. On some web servers, Duplicator won’t run for large sites, so I still follow these instructions as an alternative: https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
