Hi all, I’m a newbie in need of some guidance.

I have a local blog that I’m now trying to migrate to a server – this is my first time ever and trying not to lose patience.

I understand that to migrate my files, I need to use filezilla but it wont let me login in. I’m using:
    host: local host
username: same as the wp-admin username
password: same as the wp-admin password

Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong or if there is another way of achieving this without these login details?

  • FTP server credentials are not the same as your WordPress username and password.

    Moving to a New Server

You don’t need to log into your local server using FTP to transfer files. The files are already under your control. Copy and paste the entire contents of your local WordPress directory to a safe, backup location on your computer; ie.. in your /Home directory, or on Windows, somewhere safe in your Documents folder. Then you can use your FTP client to transfer the files from that location to your live server environment.
