[Resolved] Might I suggest a change to your theme instructions

  • I’ve been supporting a theme for a number of yours and looked at many plugins, but I was baffled lookng at the install instructions till I had read it multiple times. the last part reads:

    Each of these template tags will present different aspects of the multiple bylines. For instance, the first will display the first and last name of each co-author without any links. The second will display the first and last name of co-author linking back to their author profile page. And so on.

    To use them, simply modify the code surrounding all instances of the_author*() to something like the following example:

    if ( function_exists( 'coauthors_posts_links' ) ) {
        coauthors_posts_links();
    } else {
        the_author_posts_link();
    }

    The code you’ll need to change depends on the theme you’re using.

    When I first looked at this I thought I needed to change ‘the_author()’ to that code which made no sense. Myght I suggest you change the example to

    To use them, simply modify the code. If you find the_author_posts_link() change it to:

    if ( function_exists( 'coauthors_posts_links' ) ) {
        coauthors_posts_links();
    } else {
        the_author_posts_link();
    }

    The code you’ll need to change depends on the theme you’re using.

    and then list ALL of the existing functions and what they would be changed to.

    This might help a lot of people who aren’t very familiar with PHP or the various ‘author’ functions.
