    Hi there,

I’m using WPML in combination with Yoast SEO. They have been working fine together, but it seems like there is a problem where some function is updating the Yoast SEO database with the wrong translation.

In the database the Dutch and German meta title & description are the same, but in the backend the Dutch translation is active in Yoast. After updating the page (without any changes) the problem is fixed. But in a few hours/days/weeks the problem comes back.

I have tried deactivating all plugins, but this does not seem to solve the issue. Also changing to a default theme does not resolve the issue. I feel like there is a plugin messing with the meta data, but I’m unable to find it. I have also tried making a debug log, but without success.

Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

    Kind regards,
    Luc de Koning

    Hello Luc,

Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin. We have seen unexpected issues where the previously optimized data is invalid or incomplete. We’ll start with resetting the optimization to ensure we remove invalid data.

However, we would understand if you were hesitant to reset the optimized data. We can assure you that your hard work will not be lost as the default WordPress tables also contain the SEO data. This process will only reset the custom Yoast tables with the combined data pulled from those default tables.

We know that resetting the data may sound intimidating, but our How to reset the Yoast indexables guide will walk you through the process step by step. We’ve also summarized the steps below.

    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations‘, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation‘, and ‘Reset Internal link counter‘ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that the specific reset was successful.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your content.

Please let us know if the reported issue remains after resetting the optimized data.

    Hi maybellyne,

    Thank you for your response.

I have followed your instructions on a staging enviroment. The problem seems to be solved. I will check the problem the following days in order to see if it returns.

    Kind regards,
    Luc de Koning

    Hi maybellyne,

After some days we have followed these steps on the live website. Unfortunately after 6 days the problem returned (https://smokinghotxl.nl/product-categorie/health/erotic). The staging area seems fine. My client has only updated sale prices since I have follwed your steps. It looks like the wrong category is being shown.

On the Dutch version the category ID is 40.

In the database the object_id 40 is connected to the English translation .com.

But when you edit the category with ID 40 it shows the Dutch translation.

    Kind regards,
