Meta description not showing in Google results

    Apologies if this is either a) stupid or b) already answered elsewhere.

    WordPress version:3.4
    WordPress SEO version: 1.3.4.1

    I did this:

    In a post I have entered custom text on the General tab for the meta description and Yoast SEO shows the ‘Snippet Preview’ as having the SEO Title that I have set and the meta description I have entered

    I expected the plugin to do this:

    I expected the Google result to look like the Snippet Preview.

    Instead it did this:

    But, in fact, the SERP’s show the correct SEO Title but NOT the meta description. Instead Google takes the first few lines of the post instead as the meta description

    Qn – is this a Google thing or have I done something simple wrong!?
