Meta Description Length

    Will the next update reflect the current (shorter) serp description length? Currently it’s set at 256 characters. Or is there any chance that users can set their own? (thru’ code modification or a future feature perhaps)

    Hi @yangman,

    It will, somewhat. Google has shown to be inconsistent in this; so, I want to build a standard that shows multiple versions (mobile, desktop, wide, short) which can be more easily tweaked deemed necessary.

    I’m aiming for July with this update. Until then, I encourage users to manually test their descriptions.

    I know users will be surprised when they find their descriptions to be truncated.
    You’re not alone in this change; many web owners are affected. This change doesn’t affect your SERP performance directly, as descriptions aren’t a ranking factor. It is why I didn’t release a minor update “fixing” this.
