• Every page of my blog shows what appears to be html code at the top of the page above the Atahualpa header. On some pages the code eats up over an inch of the top of the page.
I’d like to get rid of this. It’s making my site look unprofessional.
    Please help!

http://writingasaghost.com/blog/about/ is the worst, but every page has something similar going on.

My guess is that somewhere in your header.php file you have some bad code. I can’t be certain without being able to see the actual code, but since this html code is showing up on both pages and on posts that is what leads me to believe that.

If you want to post the code from your header.php file I can look at it and try and help you. Or, you can contact me at mitchellbwright (at) gmail (dot) com

well, one problem is your meta description…. where did you enter that? In your code? A Plugin? A theme option maybe?

<meta name="description" content="<h2><a rel="attachment wp-att-97" href="http://writingasaghost.com/blog/about/denise-in-red-s/">Why I am a ghostwriter</a></h2> <p>Ghostwriting suits me perfectly. you can’t have any code in your meta description…. that block is a mess. It should just be text in there, and it should not be over like 120 characters I think

So wherever you put in meta keywords and descriptions, fix that. Just use a short, text only description

Where to I access the header.php file? I’m using Atahualpa 3.6.1 as my theme.

Your header.php file can be found in the WordPress admin page. Click on the “Appearance” tab in the left sidebar and then click on the “Editor” link. Then, from the editor page, click on the “header.php” in the right sidebar.

    There isn’t a header.php file listed.

I’m not sure how this text ended up in the meta description. I didn’t put it there. The only meta descriptions I can access say something completely different and don’t include any code.

Finally! I clicked on the right editor button. Here is the header.php code.
[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. Please use the pastebin]

I have never used this theme, but I went ahead and downloaded it and it seems that there is an extra > in the line between the head and body tags that could be causing a problem. I updated the header and have pasted it in the pastebin here:

The lines that are changed have been highlighted. If that doesn’t fix it, then you would probably be better off heading to the Atahualpa support forum at http://forum.bytesforall.com/ as suggested by esmi

Thanks for your efforts, kaedues. It didn’t resolve the problem and messed up some other stuff. I went back to the copy I had saved in Notepad. I’ll try the Atahualpa support forum.

Found out the problem was caused by an SEO plug-in. Such a simple solution. LOL.
