This may be just a pipe dream. Or it may be so much coding that it’s over my head. But I’d like to know anyway.

Let’s say I have two domains running wordpress, mybusinesssite.com and mypersonalsite.com. Is it possible to merge these two into one, mysite.com, without destroying all the content I’ve created on my original sites? If so, how?

  • If you export both contents and import them in one (new) installation, you’re well on the way. There may be a bit of fiddling with categories, etc., but the posts, comments, etc. will all be there. Just try it out on a test site.

Thanks, Gangleri. I figured that, at the least, it would require some time to fix up the categories, delete duplicate themes and plugins, etc., but I’m very encouraged to know that it’s at least possible.

Themes and plugins have nothing to do with it, an export exports the content not the website itself. The content is posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, that sort of stuff. I tried it a few times and every time I had a few empty categories and therefor posts that I need to ‘reasign’ to a category, but that was about all the problems I had. It was on a test site (just to fill it).
