 * Hi
 * I have created a menu with various items on it and these items are pages. Some
   of the main items are just place holders for sub-menu items. In this case the
   main parent item should not do anything except highlight the sub-menu items.
   It should NOT open a page. So how do I arrange for this to occur?
 * Thanks for being there and helping.

 * For the main placeholder item you can create a Custom Link Menu item and in the
   url put a #.

 * Use a “custom link” and put in `#` as the link content.

 * Matias & Steve
 * Thanks for you help although I am still having difficulty. Matias sent me a screen
   shot which appears to show the menu structure and the ability to highlight/expand
   a specific parent item to add a custom link. I don’t appear to be able to do
   that.
    On my screen there is column listing pages,posts, custom link and categories.
   Expanding the Custom link item gives me a URL box https:// and another box Link
   Text. I don’t appear to be able to relate this to any specific menu item.
 * The menu structure of all the items is in another column. Expanding any parent
   item does not give access to a custom link. Navigation label is the only additional
   item.
 * I hope you are able to understand this,a screen shot would be better but I cannot
   do that yet either.

 * Overtype “[https://&#8221](https://&#8221); with “#” and add the menu item. See

 * Thanks Steve
 * I think I did this before but it created anther item on the menu bar so I thought
   it was wrong. I had to move all my sub-menus to the new items and delete the
   original items. Anyway it is sorted now so thanks for your help.

 * PS Steve
    I am going to have a question later about security of my site e.g to
   stop it being hacked can you tell which forum to use when the time comes.
