    Not sure if this is a WordPress core issue or Sydney 1.60 compatibility issue but when upgrading to WordPress 5.4, the layout of the menu in the header changes. Also, sub-menus have a tabbing problem. See this file for a before and after view.

  • Hello,

    It looks like this issue is already resolved, isn’t it?

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Hi Roman

    I’ve managed to get to the bottom of this problem. It appears there’s a plugin, Menu Image, which doesn’t play well WordPress 5.4 and Sydney 1.6. To see what happens, see https://website.cpcu.co.uk/ which is WordPress 5.3.2 with Menu Image activated, then https://website.cpcu.co.uk/with/ which is the same site updated to WordPress 5.4 with Menu Image activated, and finally https://website.cpcu.co.uk/without/ which is WordPress 5.4 with the Menu Image plugin deactivated. As you can see, deactivating the Menu Image plugin restores the Menu to it’s former glory. I’ll pass this on to the WordPress team and to the Menu Image maintainer.

    Many thanks for your prompt response and for a terrific theme.

    Best regards
    Steve

    Hello Steve,

    This site has .menu-image-title-after and .menu-image-title classes in each menu item <span> element that seem to be coming from the Menu Image plugin. Also this plugin CSS code includes this rule that extends your menu:

    .menu-image-title-before.menu-image-not-hovered img,
    .menu-image-hovered.menu-image-title-before .menu-image-hover-wrapper,
    .menu-image-title-after.menu-image-title {
        padding-left: 10px;
    }

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Hi Roman

    Ah, that very much explains it, the shift to the right is about 10px and looks like it’s applied to all menu items, regardless of whether it’s got an image or not. Also, explains the funny tabbing on the first line of a multi-line sub-menu item.

    Many thanks for your detective work, I think I’ll find an alternative way to do the images!

    Best regards
    Steve

    You are welcome Steve!

    By the way, you can check this plugin:

    Kind Regards, Roman.
