• I’ve defined a dutch and a english menu set and pages. On the english all works well. If I switch to dutch the menu on the home page works well. As soon as I click on a menu item (Pages) the correct pages shows, but the menu changes to english. This happens on all the pages.

I have checked all the settings and menu options, cannot find anything but that in the quick pages list view the language selector sets on english, also for the dutch pages. If I edit the page the language is set correct on that page. If I change the language selector on the quick edit page and press save, it reverts back to english. Perhaps there is a problem? I use the Fable theme of elegant themes. My development site is http://www.snepmi.nl/new

That’s not only the menu which is in English but everything because your “Dutch” pages are in fact set to English.

If I change the language selector on the quick edit page and press save, it reverts back to english. Perhaps there is a problem?

Yes sure. There is a problem. Can you switch the language to Dutch when you are in the edit page panel (not using the quick edit)?

Is your install a fresh install?

Yes, there I can set them to Dutch (Nederlands) and it remains in that language. When I take a look at the quick edit details after saving that it still states that the language is in English.

It is not a completely fresh install, as I used the Nexus theme before, and now switched to the Fable theme as you told me the Nexus theme is not compatible. The Fable theme does seem to be compatible (at least for the home page and all the english pages)

If needed I can do a fresh install, but am really wondering why I cannot change the language on the quick edit. perhaps a rights problem?

What I am aware is that:
When you switch the language in quick edit and save and come back in quick edit just after (without refreshing the page), the language dropdown menu is not refreshed. However the language was correctly saved.

If in your case, the language is not saved, then that’s a different issue which may come from a conflict.

Thank you. After a refresh it does save. But then the problem arises that previous settings are undone again on the pages I just changed. So it seems impossible to set all the pages to the right language. Even if I do them one by one, refreshing the page, set a new one, refresh, the old ones are set to english again. Very strange.

After a lot fiddling I’ve managed to get it running right, but it seems to be a bit buggy…
    Just to let you know…

    Hi,

I’ve installed the plugin and im facing the same problem. I can run the entire website on English but when I turn to Portuguese it changes to English every time I click on something.

    I don’t see any issue.
    went to http://sergiomoreira.com/pt/
    then http://sergiomoreira.com/blogue/
    then http://sergiomoreira.com/valores/
    Everything is in Portuguese
Just noticed that some strings (maybe all?) of your theme are not translated.
    Please read this: http://polylang.wordpress.com/documentation/setting-up-a-wordpress-multilingual-site-with-polylang/theme-internationalization-i18n-and-localization-l10n/

That does not happen with me. I went to main page and then I turn to Portuguese language and the main menu turns to portuguese. I click on blog (blogue) and the main menu turns to English and the blog posts also turns to English. I need to click again on the portuguese flag to turn to portuguese again.

I see. How did you add menu items in your menu menu-pt? It looks like you added English pages and just translated the navigation label (so the link stays to teh English page).

Rookie mistake. thank you for all the support.
