I have set up categories under parent categories when creating a new post. Both the parent and child category show above each post, but I dont see the child categories drop down in menu with either desktop or mobile version.

Also, some posts list parent category first and others put child first when they are listed above the post. I have gone into each post to be sure the parent category is set as primary, but nothing has changed. Its not a big deal that the categories are listed differently but I want to be sure the posts are organized properly.

    Thank you!

    Hello!

Have you added the child categories to the menu as sub-menu items and they still do not appear?

The categories above the post are listed in an alphabetical order which means that some child categories might appear before their parent, their relations won’t be reflected on that part of the post.

The primary category option you mention is most likely a feature added by Yoast SEO and is only there for SEO purposes, it won’t affect the order in any way. WordPress does not distinguish between primary and secondary categories by default.

Okay, I went it and added them properly as sub categories and of course, it did the trick.

Thank you very much for the help. 🙂
