The admin bar from within the dashboard works fine. However, when looking at the actual website, the bar at the top of the page (admin bar?) is no longer there. Instead it is showing up as a nested text menu at the bottom of the page. Here is a link to a screenshot image: [ http://Pictat.com/show.php?i=/2011/7/10/46804textadminb.png ].

I recently changed folders for the site. It was at http://beta.mysite.com and I moved it to http://mysite.com. I physically moved the site from the beta folder to the root of my web server. Before I moved the site I changed two addresses from inside the dashboard. After I moved the site I had to update a php file for a supercache plugin. After that everything seems to be working perfectly. With the exception of the “admin bar” (is that what it is called?) that shows up at the top of the actual website when logged in.

Any suggestions for what I can do to get it working again?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Thanks for the input. After following your advice, it turns out to be the BuddyPress plugin that is causing this issue for me. Problem solved.
