    Hi,

I have an issue with a subset of automated emails which cause this “Error: Could not authenticate”.

I use memberpress for my WP website.

Test emails (WP SMTP Mail, Memberpress) and reminders (Memberpress) work, but a subset of automated emails doesn’t. These are membership specific “Welcome Emails” to users. They are being sent if a subscriber transaction is completed.

The from email address for these emails is the same as the username.

Does anybody know why WP SMTP Mail cannot authenticate in these cases?

    I would be very happy.

    Katharina

We found the issue. To let other know:

The plugin worked only for testmails when the password was insert in the wp-config.php file. (I entered it there for security reasons.)

When I insertet the passowrd directly in the plugin settings the transactionals emails worked.

    Hi Katharina,

SMTP password saved via constants in wp-config.php file should work just OK.

Did you add the constants just before this line: /* That's all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */? They should be added before this line and not at the end of the file. If they are added at the end of the file it could cause the same issues as you experienced.

    Take care!
