Member role changes not updating properly

I have set up my UM site where a new user is assigned as a Guest which works fine. However when I go to modify the users to another role which I assumed you could do by looking at all Users, locate, select them and use the change roles to action that it would work out of the box.

However what happens is that if I do that their role is changed and shows the correct role in the user list but it is no reflected on the front end.

To fix this I have to open up the individual member account in Admin and scroll down and select Update User button. Then it works. Note that I did not need to change the role in this process it was already correctly set.

Is this a bug or feature? If a bug how can this be fixed please? A two step process is rather annoying.

If this is a me only issue, any ideas where I can look to try and figure this out to solve it? I have tried turning off all plugins and using the 2019 theme etc.

BTW why is there a heading titled Ultimate Member on the backend user page just above the Update User button? There is nothing underneath other than the Update User button, or is that what it is for. It would be great to see more UM data under that heading from their UM Profile.
