Support » Fixing WordPress » media uploads correctly, but can't be found by page

Hello, I am working on a final project for a Linux and system programming class, and we are supposed to setup a server and use WordPress to manage a website. I’ve got everything up and running, but I can’t seem to use any media. When I try to upload a picture, it uploads successfully, but in my media section from the admin page, the thumbnail shows up as a broken link and clicking it says the file cannot be found at /wp-uploads/2011/11/Screenshot-at-2011-10-18-223423.png. When I check that folder with my file browser though, the image is there. I thought it is was a permissions thing, so I tried changing permissions on the folder and symbolic linking to other folders, but still haven’t managed to get it to work.

Also, I’m not sure if it matters, but I went ahead and installed phpmyadmin to check out the database, thinking maybe something was corrupt, and I noticed I don’t have any table for media at all. I don’t know if that is normal or not, as I don’t have any experience with WordPress, but I thought I’d mention it.

    Any tips?

Check your uploads path in Settings -> Media.

Thanks esmi. I’ve been trying to figure this out.

The path seems to be correct. I’ve tried changing it a few times but it doesn’t make a difference. When I upload an image, if I have my file browser open to the folder specified in that path, I can see the image appear in the folder, and when I delete them, I can see them get removed from the folder, but I can’t ever actually see the image from my website.

Ok, I changed the path to a folder where I have other files that I can access (such as a test php page) and I can still access the other files, but can’t access the images… maybe this is an apache problem.

    Any tips are still appreciated

I got it working. I was right about it being an error with apache. My config file was looking in my home directory. I changed it, and although I’m sure what I did would normally be a security risk, it’ll work for my project and then I can delete the whole thing. Thanks for you help.
