Media Uploader won't insert images in 3.5

I’m using Genesis framework and can’t add images in the 3.5 update.
I never actually installed this update- it started on its own, so I didn’t have the opportunity to do it manually. It seemed like everything switched over fine until I tried to insert photos. The pictures upload but insert photo button does nothing.
I deactivated my plugins and this did not resolve the issue. For some reason when I did this it took my “Edit CSS” option out of my menus, leaving me the the base CSS editor. This reverted my page back to its original child theme. When I activated jetpack it turned the editor with all my settings back on.
I have read over many of these threads for help on this issue. It seems most people were able to resolve by deactivating certain plugins. I’m a total newb and I’m really not comfortable with reinstalling my wordpress or messing around with something if I don’t have to. I’ve never had to install a backup before so this stuff makes me nervous!
