Yes, I’m afraid this is yet another post regarding the familiar error:

“xxxxxxx.JPG” has failed to upload due to an error
Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.

I can no longer get any media files to upload after upgrading from 3.8 to 3.8.1. I’ve read the posts about setting file permissions to 777 – and even though I’m against such settings for security reasons I did try it and opening up the permissions on the directories and the files did not correct the problem.

I have uninstalled plugins and read hundreds of posts here from people with the same problem but I do not see any solutions that work.

My files are already on my server – I used a manual ftp to put them there (../wp-content/uploads/2014/02/). However, they cannot be seen in wp-admin.

Does anyone know what is really going on with this upgrade?

    Any new guesses?

    Thanks.

The problem I’ve been having appears to be specific to a Nimbus theme I am using. If I switch to a default theme or from another developer I am able to upload media files.

So it is a theme issue – not a core WordPress one. Try contacting the theme’s developer about it.
