    I was reading up on WP 3.5 here.

    This statement gave me pause:

    “The Media Settings also have some changes: there is no way to specify the upload folder through the options dialogue (see the ticket for details). If you have to specify a custom upload folder location you should use UPLOADS constant in config file.”

    Why?

    Well I have an old blog (2003) and migrated to WP several years ago. At the time I didn’t want to re-upload all my images which were stored in a folder called /photos.
    It was a simple change Media Settings to wp-content/photos.

    What will I need to do to keep that setting when WP 3.5 is rolled out?? (I did not understand the ticket detail) and I don’t understand the statement above,

    “If you have to specify a custom upload folder location you should use UPLOADS constant in config file.”

    I was all excited and even prettied up the new TwentyTwelve theme to be ready to roll, but now I have angst.

    Help Please.

  • That’s a pretty easy thing to do. You will need to add this line to your wp-config.php file:

    define('UPLOADS', '/photos');

    You might have to play with this a bit because I don’t know if the folder will need to be ‘photos’, ‘/photos’, ‘photos/ or ‘/photos/’. You’ll be able to see pretty quickly if one of those doesn’t work so try the next one.

    ahhh thank you.. easy solutions. Now I can be excited again 🙂

    Thanks all, you helped me as well 😉
    Right DEFINE is like this: define('UPLOADS', 'whatever');
    otherwise you will have double slashes in your paths.
    Enjoy!
