# Media Problems

 * So I just noticed this tonight. I don’t usually use any media but when I attempted
   to upload a few pictures using the Media>Add New menu I ran into problems. It
   appears to work just fine however when I add the media to a post, or simply try
   to view them it shows me nothing at all. It looks like the image is not ever 
   there. I actually confirmed this via FTP and there is, indeed, no image. The 
   permissions for my wp-content/uploads folder and my .htaccess are 777 so that
   they should be writable. The location of one of the images is this: [http://www.dansrandomness.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/verizon1.png](http://www.dansrandomness.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/verizon1.png)
   It seems to be going to a set up sub-directories inside the uploads folder but
   no such directory exists, let alone the files it’s looking for. I’m sure I’m 
   missing something stupid here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

 * First of all, your .htaccess (and other files) should be set at 644 or 666. Folders
   should be 755. Leaving your .htaccess and other files/folders at “777” is an 
   open invitation to get your site (and possibly your server) hacked.
 * What are your settings for the media? The default to set up the “uploads” folder
   is “wp-content/uploads” – but I’m confused. First, you say that wp-content/uplaods
   is at 777 permissions, but then you go on to say “uploads” doesn’t actually exist.
   So which is it? Is it there or not? (if not, have you created it?)

 * Assign 766 recursive permissions to wp-contents folder and set the correct upload
   path from the settings miscellaneous settings.
