# Media Permalink

 * Hello,
 * Could you please help me on how to activate the media permalink?
 * I have a file uploaded on the web in the following location:
    [http://mangalamstudio.com//wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Tara-Tsog-Offerings_1.pdf](http://mangalamstudio.com//wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Tara-Tsog-Offerings_1.pdf)
 * However, I would like to use the file permalink, which is written on the media
   page as follows:
    [http://mangalamstudio.com/practices/tara-tsog-offerings/](http://mangalamstudio.com/practices/tara-tsog-offerings/)

 * You’re correct that this is the permalink for the media files attachment page.
 * A media files attachment page will display a normal page, and depending on what
   kind of media it is, also display the image, video, audio clip etc.
 * Since this is a .pdf file, and you can’t display those by default, it only has
   a page with a link to the actual file on the page.

 * There is no way to display *the contents* of a PDF in a Page – any page, not 
   just WordPress – PDFs can only be viewed by valid PDF viewers like Adobe Reader,
   or Preview (for Mac users), or in the Browser if the person has a PDF-viewer 
   add-on for their chosen browser AND they click on a PDF link.
 * What you CAN do is post a LINK to your PDF, that your site visitors can choose
   to click on, or not. The easiest way to do that is create a Post or Page, and
   in the text (content) for that page, include a link by typing some text (like“
   download my super cool PDF”) then select (highlight) that text, and use the “
   Link” button at the top to paste in the link to your media file (PDF).
 * Also, it’s considered good etiquette to tell people how LARGE the PDF file is
   so they can decide whether or not to download it – this is important to people
   on slow connections, mobile devices, or limited data plans. I would suggest that
   your link (either inside or outside of the actual hyperlink) include some text
   to tell them the file size – typically I would do something like this:
 * Download my super-cool file!” – (PDF file, 320MB)

 * to a shorter and simpler link like the following
